چکیده

In order to incrase the realism of an image or a scene in a computer-graphics application, so-called “imperfections” are often used during rendering. These are techniques which add details like dirt, scratches, dust or aging effects to the models and textures. Realism is improved through imperfections since computer generated models are usually too “perfect” to be accepted as “realistic” by human observers. By making them, for example, dusty and scratched, people can imagine them being part of their real world much more easily. This article gives an overview of currently used imperfections techniques and algorithms. Topics like textures, scratches, aging, dust, weathering, lichen growth and terrain erosion are covered. Comprehensive Solutions for Removal of Dust and Scratches from Images

Dust, scratches or hair on originals (prints, slides or negatives) distinctly appear as light or dark artifacts on a scan. These unsightly artifacts have become a major consumer concern. There are several scenarios for removal of dust and scratch artifacts. One scenario is during acquisition, e.g., while scanning a photographic media. Another is artifact removal from a digital image in an image...

A Geometry Dependent Texture Generation Framework for Simulating Surface Imperfections

To model surface imperfections and weathering, we propose a two-step texture generation framework in between manual texture synthesis and automatic physical simulation. Although the pattern of blemishes looks random, the systematic and geometry dependent nature of the underlying distribution is still observable. A distribution of tendency (potential to contain blemishes) is modeled in the first...

An observational model for illuminating isolated scratches

In this paper we present an observational model for rendering isolated scratches on otherwise smooth surfaces. Current illumination models do not provide a simple method for approximating the e ect caused by these isolated scratches. One way to model the e ect of these scratches is to consider them as single slits. The observed intensity at a point is then computed using Fresnel single slit di ...

Flatbed Scanner Identification Based on Dust and Scratches Over

In this paper, a novel individual source scanner identification scheme is proposed. The scheme uses traces of dust, dirt, and scratches over scanner platen on scanned images to characterize a source scanner. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is substantiated with experimental analysis. The robustness of the scheme to the JPEG compression is also investigated. Experimental results show that pr...
